Metaphor as a cognitive facilitator in L2 vocabulary acquisition

چکیده

Vocabulary acquisition is a cognitive activity that poses significant challenge to second language learners. Non-literal language, particularly metaphor, has long been recognized as potent and linguistic tool for expressing understanding abstract concepts, emotions, experiences. However, some contend learning non-literal may impede L2 vocabulary acquisition. This research paper aimed investigate the impact of metaphorical competence awareness on in learners based theoretical empirical studies. It examined few studies demonstrated how facilitate acquisition, such scaffolding learners’ word meanings improving their retention. The implications were discussed future design, pedagogical proffered educators.
